How to Trademark Something - The Path is Simple, If You Know It

!±8± How to Trademark Something - The Path is Simple, If You Know It

Knowing how to trademark something is the last part in creating a new slogan or logo to represent yourself or your company. The reason this is done is to create a brand name like Kleenex is for tissues. When a trademark is obtained, this is the first step towards that brand recognition that will give your product or services the top price amongst your competition.

The process to file for a trademark can be done online with the United States Patent and Trademark Office's website. Here, the required form can be obtained. Information that will be required to submit and process your application is as follows:

· Name of the applicant

· The name and address for any future correspondence with the USPTO

· A clear drawing of the mark or what is to be trademarked

· A complete list of the goods and services the trademark will represent

· The application must be accompanied by the filing fee

If for any reason these requirements are not met, the application and any fee that was paid will be returned to the applicant.

The application can be filed by paper application or by electronic means. The filing date of the application is the date that the USPTO actually receives your application and a serial number is assigned.

These are the minimal requirements that are needed when the application is originally submitted. There may be more clarification or other requirements that the examining official may request that will also have to be submitted.

The current cost of a paper application as of February 1, 2010 is 5.00. An electronic application fee is 5.00.

These are the main requirements and information needed when wanting to know how to trademark something.
